All our confinement meals are packed with natural goodness and free of MSG.

A proper postpartum (Confinement Period) starts with the discharge of lochia and the revitalization of Qi and blood during the first week of the confinement period. And the second week onwards, the focus is to replenish the needed nutrients for the body. This would help to nourish postpartum woman back to her optimal level and to boost breast milk for mothers who breastfeed.

At Mum in Moon, we tailor our confinement meal according to this belief. Our confinement meal menu is planned to achieve the “Transforming and Generating” process. “Transforming” represents the purification process (whereby toxins are expelled) and the restoration of the uterus to its original state. “Generating” represents the nourishment of the body to replenish nutrients, blood and Qi.

第一階段:代謝期

  • 提高新陳代謝
  • 排惡露
  • 滋補調理

由於分娩耗血傷氣,產婦氣血虛弱,體力疲乏,千萬不要急於進補,否則會弄巧成拙,不但進補不成,反而造成腎臟負擔,越補產婦越感疲累。故此一階段調理重點為「排除惡露恢復子宮機能、消除水腫、強化肝臟及腸胃功能、幫助傷口癒合」所以搭配清補湯水及開脾健胃之燉品。

食材的選擇以質地細嫩,容易消化吸收,烹調儘量軟爛,避免造成腸胃負擔。適合剛生產完畢,臟腑功能尚未完全恢復的產婦。

Phase 1: Detox

Due to blood loss during delivery, a postpartum mother will be deficient in energy, essential vitamins and nutrition. However, you should not rush into intense replenishment at this stage because it can add burden to the stomach, intestines and kidneys, making the mother feel even more tired. Therefore, the focus of this stage is to:

  • Revitalize the internal organs of the body
  • Remove the negative residual substances within the womb
  • Eliminate water retention in the body
  • Heal scars formed during process of giving birth
  • Strengthen the functions of the internal organs such as kidney, liver and womb.

The choice of ingredients should be tender and easy to digest and absorb in order to avoid causing gastrointestinal burden. This meal plan is suitable for mothers who have just given birth whose internal functions have not yet been fully restored.

第二階段:修復期

  • 祛濕補氣,加強水分代謝
  • 滋補強身,增強體力
  • 滋補調養,加強康復

經過7-14天的代謝及整腸調補後,產婦的體能已全面復元,此時應進入第二階段的飲食調理。懷孕期間,由於需要支撐胎兒,孕婦的腰骨需承受極大的負荷及損傷,再者分娩的過程中,因骨盆撐開而造成各骨關節的移位,所以在體力、元氣恢復後的第二階段,必須以食療壯腰補腎,否則日後則常為腰骨酸痛之苦而煩惱。

此外,母乳哺餵在經過產後3至7天的適應及磨合,此時乳腺也確定暢通,所以這階段的另一個調理重點就是提升母乳的質和量。

Phase 2: Restore
After 7-14 days of detox, the postpartum mother is ready to enter the second stage of the confinement cycle. This stage aims to revitalize the internal & external muscle groups of the body. Huge amount of energy was used to carry the baby in the womb. The Spine, hips and joints have been overly-exhausted during pregnancy. Enormous effort was then used during labour to “push” the baby out.
For those mothers who breastfeed, after the first 3-7 days of getting used to breast-feeding, the milk ducts should have unclogged at this stage. Therefore, the meal plan for mothers who breastfeed will include food and soups that encourages the production of high quality and quantity of milk.
Stage 2 aims to:

  • Ease back pain, body aches and strengthen core muscles
  • Ensure smooth discharge of breast milk for baby-feeding
  • Restore the loss of hormones to ensure proper discharge of breast milk
  • Shrink the womb which was expanded during birth
